Sources & research standards

Good curiosity pages should make it easy to leave the cartoon and inspect the evidence.

Preferred sources

  • Peer-reviewed research and PubMed-indexed papers.
  • Government science and public-health agencies such as NASA, NOAA, USGS, USDA and NIH.
  • Universities, museums and established scientific institutions.
  • Specialist organizations when they are the best available authority for a narrow factual question.

What we avoid

Unsourced listicles, circular citations, anonymous “fact” pages and AI-generated claims are not enough to support a factual statement. Wikipedia can be useful for orientation but is not our preferred final citation when a stronger source is available.
